GEN-17: Speech slower than the default speed
Last updated:
Part of the EchoVision Wish List, under General.
- Status: Under review.
- What owners asked: Currently I can only increase speech speed via Settings > Audio. There are cases when people would find it valuable to REALLY slow down the speech below the current default floor.

The need
Some owners need speech slower than the default speed: for long texts, for unfamiliar words, or while learning the glasses. Today the speech speed in Settings > Audio can only go up from the default.
What it would look like
- Settings > Audio gets speed steps below the default.
- No new button, gesture or voice command.
- The slower speed applies to all speech from the glasses.
Pros and cons
- Pro: a small change to a setting owners already use.
- Pro: helps slow listeners, new users and unfamiliar words.
- Con: one more step on the setting.
- Con: very slow speech can sound distorted.
Open questions
- Should reading have its own speed, separate from menus and prompts?
- What is the slowest rate each speech engine allows?
